Aikido classes

Our beginners aikido classes are for ages 7 and up. Regular and advanced classes are more suited to those who have been practicing aikido for a while. Feel free to contact us for more information about joining a class.

Please come to your first class wearing loose-fitting, long trousers and a T-shirt. If you have a keikogi (the white training suit martial artists wear) then please wear that.

When you enter the dojo, please sit quietly at the edge of the mat and a senior member of the dojo will welcome you, or the instructor will bow to you. Then quietly join in with the class.

Our aikido practice focuses on good discipline and a healthy attitude. Good mental focus allows students to develop proper technique while enjoying a fun and dynamic practice.

We sometimes practice with Japanese training weapons during classes. The bokken is a wooden sword, the jo is a wooden staff and the tanto is a wooden knife. Weapons practice helps us develop good distancing, posture and harmonious timing. We have a selection of training weapons at the dojo for students to use during class.
